The Honda Center will be packed with a web-full of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man characters, one of the most popular Marvel Super Heroes, as the call to action has been sent out to all Southland/Orange County Marvel fans to gather on Thursday March 26 to celebrate the much-anticipated Southern California Opening Night Premiere for the all-new action stunt spectacular Marvel Universe LIVE!

Each person participating in the event that arrives dressed in full official head-to-toe Spider-Man costume will receive one complimentary ticket to see Marvel Universe LIVE! at the Honda Center/Anaheim. (**limited to the first 250 people in attendance in costume)

A long time ago when the Ultimate Universe was created, Marvel stated that they would not cross over the two universes. They violated that rule first in the “Spider-Men” series and then again at the end of “Age of Ultron” series. Now they’re not to do it again with “All-New X-Men.”

The issue starts in the Ultimate Universe. Tony Stark and Kids Dr. Cho have created a portal to the multi-verse. Thanks to a power surge the portal shutdown and all the work of Tony and Cho have gone to waste.

Meanwhile back in the 616 universe, the Uncanny X-Men teachers have gone to the Gene Gray School of Learning for the reading of Charles Xavier’s last will and testament. Angel continues to make his moves in X-23 trying to prove that he is a man worthy of her. Beast, on the other hand, is making unauthorized modifications to Cerebro. Using Cerebro, Beast has located a powerful new mutant. Her name is Carmen and she is able to create portals into the multi-verse.

When the police arrived, Carmen inadvertently sends each member of the all new X-Men two different universes. As you would suspect, one of the All-New X-Men will find himself/herself in the Ultimate Universe.

“All-New X-Men” 31 continues Brian Michael Bendis’ take on the X-Men. With artist Stuart Immonen moving on to “Captain America,” he is replaced by new artists Mahmud Asrar. His style is a little more simplistic than Immonen but passable. This issue is also the start of a new storyline. As the All New X-Men are thrust into Ultimate Universe.

The Verdict

The Bad: Let down in Asrar’s artwork. No one can match the beauty of Stuart Immonen

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Video GameActivision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI) is set to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2™, an all-new single-player, third-person action-adventure video game based on Marvel’s beloved Spider-Man character and inspired by the upcoming film of the same name from Sony Pictures Entertainment. This original title, available now from development studio Beenox, brings the energy and excitement of the long-running Super Hero franchise to fans looking for a unique adventure that expands beyond the movie’s narrative.

“We’ve worked closely with Marvel to create a new story for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game that stands on its own from the events of the movie,” said Activision Publishing’s Vice President and General Manager, Kurt Niederloh. “We’re placing a strong spotlight on Peter Parker, the man behind the mask, and his infamous nemeses, including Electro, Kingpin and the Green Goblin, among others. The video game not only is based on the upcoming blockbuster movie but in addition, also offers its own unique, complete narrative.”

In crafting the sequel to their 2012 title, The Amazing Spider-Man, Beenox focused on reinvigorating and refining the action-adventure foundation established by the original, beginning with the urban playground of New York City. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 emphasizes open-world freedom in its redesign of Manhattan, remade with new visuals, architecture, challenges and surprises to discover. “We want players to have more things to do and more fun when they do them,” noted Thomas Wilson, Co-Studio Head at Beenox. “Every advancement we’ve made with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 informs that theme. From the Hero or Menace dynamic and new visual designs to the changes to combat and focus on Peter Parker – everything’s there to make that world feel more diverse, more engaging and more enjoyable.”

In addition, Activision, Sony Pictures and Sony Computer Entertainment of America have teamed up to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 PlayStation 3 bundle, available exclusively at Walmart. Available in more than 2,700 stores and online at Walmart.com, the bundle retails for $269 and includes a PS3™ 500GB system, a copy of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game and The Amazing Spider-Man movie on VUDU. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is available in North America on the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system and via download on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $59.99, on the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Nintendo’s Wii U system for an SRP of $49.99, on Windows PC for an SRP of $39.99, and is rated “T” (Teen) by the ESRB. The game is also available on Nintendo’s 3DS™ hand-held system (developed by High Voltage) for an SRP of $29.99, with an E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) rating by the ESRB. The game will also be available in retail stores on Xbox One in early May, for an SRP of $59.99 with a “T” (Teen) rating by the ESRB. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie debuts in theaters on May 2nd. The “Amazing Spider-Man 2″ is the follow-up to the first origin story movie from 2012. After becoming Spider-Man, saving New York and transforming his mentor from the Lizard, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) has embraced the great power/responsibility slogan for his life. He’s all over New York and keeping the streets safe. He’s also found himself in love and dating Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). Lately, he’s seen ghostly images of her father (Dennis Leary) and is reminded of the promise that if Parker continues to fight crime as Spider-Man, he can not date Gwen for her own safety.

906429 - The Amazing Spider-Man 2The movie surrounds itself with Peter and family, specifically with Gwen and Aunt May (Sally Field). Let’s also add Harry Osborne (Dane DeHaan) to the mix. Harry was a close friend of Peter’s until his father sent him away to boarding school in hopes of making a man out of him. Harry returns to New York to visit his dying father and that’s where Harry finds that he has inherited a crippling disease is killing his father, Norman Osborne (Chris Cooper). A disease, that Norman Osborne, failed to find a cure for in his lifetime.

It is this story of family and friends that make Amazing Spider-Man a good movie. Peter appears to be obsessed with what happened to his real parents that Aunt May feels like she is not Peter’s mom. Peter can not get close to Gwen because of the promise he made to her father and the danger she would be in if someone found out he was Spider-Man. With Harry, he has to choose whether to help his friend and risks killing him or not to help and all but ensure his death. The rapport that Garfield has with Stone, Field and DeHaan are great, and you get the sense they are family.

The problem is that the rest of the movie is too over the top and weakens what otherwise would have been a good movie. The movie starts with a Russian thief played by Paul Giamatti, who tries to steal Uranium samples from an Oscorp truck. Why? We do not know. Who for? We do not care. Giamatti plays the thief over-the-top with a thick accent. In the process, Spider-Man saves the life of an engineer from Oscorp, Max (Jamie Fox). This over-the-top nerdy goofball and loner becomes a stalkerish fan of Spider-Man, until an accident involving electric eels turns him into Electro, a psychotic stalkerish fan of Spider-Man.

Let compare this to the first movie where Peter’s mentor, Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) creates a serum based on the qualities of a lizard to help grow back his amputated arm. In the first movie, Connors is played real. A real scientist drove to solve his real problem. In Amazing Spider-Man 2, Foxx and Giamatti are played like clowns. I’ve learned that in dramatic movies, moments of outlandish comedy, pulls the audience out of the reality that the filmmakers what you make believe is real. I do not sympathize with the plight that Foxx’s character is going through because his character is not real to me.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a fine movie for Spider-Man fans. It is not as good as the first one and will probably lose audience. The third movie needs to hit it out of the park. The action and special effects are amazing and this is worth seeing in 3D, if you desire. Although the CG versions of Spider-Man still look CG.

The Verdict

The Good: The relationship with Peter, Gwen and Aunt May

The Bad: Villains are not real people in real life.

New York is on the brink of destruction thanks to the Green Goblin and the city’s rogue Spider-Slayers. Superior Spider-Man is watching his city in flames. On top of it all, Superior Spider-Man is not himself…well actually he is…Peter Parker is back and must undue all the mistakes that Doctor Octopus created when in control of Peter’s body.

The day has come and Peter Parker has returned to his rightful place in the Marvel universe. I have not been really been reading Spider-Man since I came back to reading comics. The reason was that I felt like there was a lot of history that Dan Slott had created that I was just foreign to me. Superior Spider-Man was the perfect book for me to jump back into the life of Peter Parker. I enjoyed the entire run because the idea was a game-changer and a really cool idea, Doctor Octopus swaps brains with Peter Parker and realizes that Peter never lived up to his potential and declares that he will be a Superior Spider-Man.

Almost immediately Doc Ock makes major changes to his life and the city of New York. Changes include getting a doctoral degree, getting a girlfriend, remove organized crime and securing the city thanks to spider-bots. Spider-Man also becomes a more aggressive superhero. He personally executes a villain with no sign up hope to reform. He brutally beats the Vulcan putting him on the shelf.

What Doc Ock didn’t know was that the Green Goblin caught on to the fact that Spider-Man was not Peter Parker and hacked his technology, enabling the Goblin to build an empire under the nose of Doc Ock. And in a battle with Venom, the last remaining shred of Peter Parker is pulled to the forefront.

Welcome back, Peter Parker. It was Superior Spider-Man that made me see just how amazing Dan Slott is as an action comics writer. He made us root for a ruthless Spider-Man over 31 issues and for some a little bitter pill to take seeing the return of Peter Parker. Let’s see, if what happens to Parker in the return of the Amazing Spider-Man #1.

If you haven’t followed Superior Spider-Man, the trade version are going to be available soon. Also, in issue 31, Christos Gage writes a few aftermath pages, when Peter Parker must face the people directly affected by their interaction with Doc Ock. Also Peter is going to have to face a new New York.

The Verdict

The Good: All good things must come to an end.

The Bad: Good things have ended.

alex-kurtzman-and-roberto-orciLongtime writing and producing partners Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are parting ways in their filmmaking endeavors after nearly a decade together. The pair have worked on some of Hollywood’s biggest franchise films including “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ two “Transformers” movies, “Mission Impossible III” and “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

Kurtzman and Orci–who will remain in business together on the TV front–are parting amicably, according to sources, and the split will allow them to pursue separate feature careers as directors. The two still have more than a dozen projects in development, including the next two “Spider-Man” films. It is unclear how those projects will be handled or divided between the two men.

Orci is currently laser focused on the upcoming “Star Trek 3.” He’s already been tapped to pen the picture along with Patrick McKay and John D. Payne and he’s heavily lobbying to direct the production.

Kurtzman has been tapped to direct “Venom,” Sony’s “Spider-Man” spinoff. He wrote the script with Orci and Ed Solomon.

The Geek Lab presents a Spider-Man 2 featurette about the relationship between Gwen and Peter.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. It’s great to be Spider-Man. For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen. But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro, Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn, returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp

According to the Marvel Solicitations, Doctor Octopus’ reign as Spider-Man is coming to a close. Last we left Superior Spider-Man; Doc Ock’s secret is starting to become public and the Green Goblin (Harry Osborn) has ignited a war over New York that he had been planning for a long time under the nose of Doc Ock.

What sets Spider-Man apart from other Marvel Comic books is that it’s all about one man, Peter Parker, and his world, everyone else. Superior Spider-Man is caught in the middle of a war. Harry Osborne is on his way to take over New York. J. Jonah Jameson is ready to once and for all get rid of Spider-Man and everyone that Peter Parker and Doctor Octopus knows is not safe.

The Goblin Nation is an amazing chess game choreographed by writer Dan Slott. Spidey is caught flatfooted when Osborne reveals that he knows that its Doc Ock in Parker’s brain. So in issue 29, we see our hero and villain making and countering each other’s moves. Let’s not forget the Jameson is still in play, and he released his army of Spider Slayers.

The Verdict

The Good: The scope of the Goblin Wars is everybody in Peter Parker/Doc Ock’s life.
