Fox, Mark McGrath, Kari Wuhrer, Judah Friedlander and Kelly Osbourne, “Sharknado 2: The Second One” is bigger in every way than the original. Fathom Events fans will also get a sneak peek into the making of the film with 10 minutes of exclusive, never-before-seen footage including a look into the special effects, hilarious bloopers and more.

The original “Sharknado” created a major storm of social activity and audience engagement that was as unexpected as the movie’s titular event, when it first aired on Syfy on July 11, 2013. After generating close to 5,000 tweets per minute and 400,000-plus social mentions, Fathom Events and the film’s producer, The Asylum, brought that film to theaters for a rowdy midnight screening last August. With even more sharks, more stars and a bigger city for the carnivorous creatures to feast on, a debut on the big screen for “Sharknado 2: The Second One” was in order.

Once again produced by The Asylum, “Sharknado 2: The Second One” is the story of a freak weather system that turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites – and only Fin (Ziering) and April (Reid) can save the Big Apple. The killer sharks are unleashed initially on Wednesday, July 30, on Syfy.

“We anticipate the tidal wave of Sharknado fans will hit local movie theaters once again this August as fans get their next chance to experience this phenomenon in the biggest way possible,” Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said.

Sharknado 2: The Second One - 2014Can’t get into Hall H, there should be plenty of room in 6BCF when the cast and filmmakers of “Sharknado 2: The Second One” chat about making this epic movie.

While the panel on Thursday, July 24 will occur days before its July 30 premiere, there isn’t any announcement about a screening for the cult TV movie. A slew of Sharknado stars will be present in Room 6BCF from 7:15-8:15 PM including Ian Ziering (Fin Shepard), Tara Reid (April Wexler), Vivica A. Fox (Skye), Kari Wuhrer (Ellen Shepard Brody), Judah Friedlander (Bryan) and director Anthony C. Ferrante.

Two things that New York has never seen are sharks and tornados. What happens when both are mixed together? Devastation, that’s what happens. Sharknado 2: The Second One premieres Wednesday, July 30.

Sharknado 2 brings back Sharknado stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid as a fishy storm descends on Manhattan. New cast members include Benjy Bronk, Vivica A. Fox, Kelly Osbourne, Judah Friedlander, Andy Dick, Judd Hirsch, Kari Wuhrer, Mark McGrath, and Billy Ray Cyrus.

RiffTraxLive-Sharknado_EPKJust when you thought “Sharknado,” a movie about mega-cyclones sucking up sharks from the ocean and hurling them onto land, couldn’t get any more absurd, the stars of RiffTrax have blown those expectations right out of the water and created a perfect storm of funny. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett (best known for the groundbreaking “Mystery Science Theater 3000”) – is set for what may be their most epic event ever as they take on the Syfy instant cult classic “Sharknado.” Presented by Fathom Events, RiffTrax, The Asylum, IGN and Syfy, “RiffTrax Live: Sharknado” will be broadcast live from the historic State Theater in Minneapolis to select movie theaters nationwide on Thursday, July 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. CT/ 7:00 p.m. MT and 8:00 p.m. PT, HI and AK, with a second showing on Tuesday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. local time.

Sharknado” premiered on Syfy on July 11, 2013, becoming an immediate worldwide sensation, generating nearly 5,000 tweets a minute and quickly amassing nearly 400,000 social mentions. In August, Fathom Events and The Asylum held a raucous midnight showing in more than 200 theaters nationwide. Fans should also keep an eye out for “Sharknado 2: The Second One,” which will premiere Wednesday July 30th at 9/8c on Syfy.

Produced by The Asylum, “Sharknado” is the story of beachside bar regulars including owner Fin (Ian Ziering, “Beverly Hills 90210″), bartender Nova (Casie Scerbo, “Make It Or Break It”) and local drunk George (John Heard, “Home Alone”) as they team up with Fin’s ex-wife April (Tara Reid, “Scrubs”) to investigate the ecological nightmare that has sharks swimming through the streets of Los Angeles and falling from the skies.

Entertainment Weekly described it as “… an hour-and-a-half of ridiculous, slapstick, theatrical, scientifically-impossible fun” and New York Daily News said, “’Sharknado’ is bad to the bone. It’s absurd. It’s ridiculous. If you’re a fan of low-budget horror movies and you miss it, you will regret it for the rest of your life.”

“We’re excited to have landed the big fish that is Sharknado. For a long time we’ve wanted to do a shark based movie as well as a tornado based film so we think combining the two will be twice as thrilling for our audience,” said Michael J. Nelson, RiffTrax creator and former host of the Emmy-nominated, Peabody Award-winning “Mystery Science Theater 3000.”

“We have had tremendous success separately with both ’Sharknado’ and RiffTrax. Putting the two of them together is a marriage made in apocalyptic, flying-shark heaven,” said Dan Diamond, senior vice president of Fathom Events. “Fans are going to be figuratively, and probably literally, rolling on the floor laughing.”

Sharknado-Ian-ZieringSomeone must really like Sharknado 2, because Sharnado 3 has been greenlit by the SyFy Channel, even before the second has aired on television.

The setting for “Sharknado 3″ has not been set, suggestion that some kind of fan input might be solicited by producer Asylum Entertainment. “Sharknado 2,” which terrorizes Gotham, is set to bow July 30.

NBCUniversal Events - Season 2014The director of Sharknado promised today at NBCUniversal’s Summer Press Day at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena, that Sharknado 2 will up the crazy and over-the-top.

“That sort of energy is still there,” Ferrante explained. “When we set out to make the second one the idea was to come up with crazier things. If we stayed in Los Angeles it would have been boring, but we’re in New York City, so it’s a whole new set of tinker toys.”

Among those toys: the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan’s towering skyline and a tornado that drops menacing, masticating sharks on dry land.

The movie stars Iain Ziering and Tara Reid. Mark McGrath, Kari Wurher and Judah Friedlander also join the cast. Confirmed celeb cameos include Richard Kind, Kelly Osbourne, Matt Lauer and Judd Hirsch.

“Sequels do suck unless they’re shot in New York City,” quipped McGrath. “I’m in this movie because I’m a fan. I feel like I won a contest being in this movie. Dreams can still happen.”

“I actually approached (Ferrante) to be in this film,” said Friedlander, who spent two days on the 18-day shoot. “This to me is the most important film made about climate change. There is nothing more important. I live in New York City and I wanted to be a part of this film to help save the city.”

“We had a little bit more money for the second one because we were in New York, “ he said, “but we had a compressed amount of time and we pushed what we could do with the budget to the max.”

“There’s heart in this movie and that was our currency,” said Wuhrer. “We really all pulled together there weren’t any divas.”

As Friedlander pointed out, the film also boats some of the top “shark actors” in the world.

“Sharks from the Royal Academy of London came to be in the film,” he joked to reporters.

Ultimately, proffered Ferrante, the charm of the “Sharknado” franchise lay in its ability to be “unpretentious” and not take itself too seriously.

“You’re making a movie called ‘Sharknado,’” he said. “It’s like an 11-year-old wrote the film. It’s that sensibility. If you don’t embrace it, you end up with a movie that’s not fun.”
