prabhudheva-in-abcd-disney-indiaDid you know that the Walt Disney Company owns a production company in India? They have for quite some time and now they are going to produce Disney-branded Bollywood movies.

From Variety:

Disney will be releasing three high-profile Bollywood movies under its own label in a territory that has been notoriously tough for U.S. studios to crack — a potentially lucrative market that until recently has largely resisted Hollywood movies in favor of local-language films from a prolific film production industry.

Until now, Disney, which owns the market-leading film and TV group UTV, had been content to leave the UTV brand and its low-budget Spotboy label to their own devices.

But since the integration of Disney and UTV in India last year, the studios’ team has been looking for the right stories to develop into the first set of Disney branded local productions, said Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director of studios for Disney UTV. “We are confident we have a slate of movies that capture the essence of the Disney brand — heartwarming, uplifting and fun for the whole family,” he said.

The trio of films — “PK,” “Jagga Jasoos” and “ABCD 2” — are all being made under the wing of Disney-UTV.

All three of the new Disney titles can loosely be described as family films, and all are expected to be released in 2014-15. “PK,” which is in production, marks the re-teaming of helmer Rajkumar Hirani with Bollywood star Aamir Khan, the director-actor team behind global hit “3 Idiots.” “Jagga Jasoos,” which begins shooting in November, reunites “Barfi !” director Anurag Basu with that film’s star, Ranbir Kapoor, in a musical comedy about the zany adventures of a young detective. Bollywood leading lady Katrina Kaif is also onboard.

“ABCD 2” is a sequel to 3D dance film “Any Body Can Dance,” and will again be directed by celebrated choreographer-director Remo D’Souza and feature terp star Prabhudheva.

ABC’s Shark Tank Changes Its Rules

MARK CUBAN, BARBARA CORCORAN, KEVIN O'LEARY, LORI GREINER, ROBERT HERJAVEC, CHRIS JOHNSON (RAPID RAMEN COOKER)ABC’s Shark Tank allows up-and-coming entrepreneurs the opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of savvy investors, including Mark Cuban. Whether or not you walk away with the cash infusion that you wanted, your product/idea has 10 minutes of invaluable exposure. What you may not know is that there was a cost for this national exposure. It came to light that to appear on Shark Tank, you had to either give up 2 percent of future royalties or a 5 percent equity stake to the show’s production company and ABC.

Thanks to recent a recent rules change, business owners no longer have to give away their company to appear on Shark Tank. Also, past contestants will also received parts of their company back retroactively.

According to TV Guide, sources say that getting rid of the stipulation will bring bigger and better entrepreneurs to the program, since some prospects have been reluctant to go along with the deal.

Report from TV Guide:

Fox has given a series commitment order to the drama pilot Gotham.

The project, from Warner Bros. TV and Mentalist creator Bruno Heller, explores the origin story of the Batman character Commissioner James Gordon and the villains of Gotham City. The one-hour drama takes place when Gordon was still a police detective and had yet to meet Batman, who isn’t expected to be a part of the show.

Gordon, who was initially introduced by DC Comics in 1939, was most recently played by Gary Oldman in the Dark Knight trilogy.

Gotham marks the second Warner Bros.-DC Comics project of the year following the Arrow spin-off featuring Flash that was announced in July.
